Compact, modern and clever - the A3M Infodisplay

Compact, modern and clever - this is how the new Infodisplay was for the first time presented to the world public at the 1999 Hannover Fair by the Braunschweig-based company A3M. The display is a novelty of the LONWORKS® technology (Local Operating Network): straight forward in design, it houses a sophisticated central monitoring unit that has been conceived to help save energy. .

When installed in private households it supplies the necessary information that allows users to monitor their energy consumption rates and call up any environmental data. When integrated into a network, it serves as a basis on which users can compare readings and optimise their energy consumption. In conjunction with the necessary software, the display may even be used for actuation of certain machinery. Such household items as washing machines and dish washers will then only be allowed to run at times of low electricity tariffs or during the heating cycles of decentralised district heating stations.

The A3M Infodisplay is primarily intended for residential and office buildings, it may, however, also be integrated into more complex systems. It receives, stores and processes the data supplied by water, heat and electricity meters, which are then displayed either in graphical form or as a text. Total figures, developments and statics can additionally be read out. Last but not least, such relevant (environmental) information as bus timetables, opening hours, ozone values and rainwater levels can be made available to the user through a network.
But not only privately used rooms, caretakers' flats and conference rooms, too, are places where the Infodisplay by be installed for central monitoring functions. Individual software organisation make it a highly versatile unit that may also be used as signalling console in the catering trade or as part of automation processes in industry.

The display was developed within a period of just under two years, for which funding was made available by Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (federal environmental trust).

Development work and service organisation benefit from the clear company structure of A3M. With a staff of eight engineers and technicians, there is always a close link between project planning and realisation. Proximity to customers is given top priority: products are tailored to match both the customer's immediate needs and up-to-date technical standards. A3M's strong points are not only in the fields of Home Automation, energy management and measuring and control engineering; the company is also successful in such areas as technical automation, as well as order-related hardware and software development. Having been founded in 1992, the company doubled its staff last year. A3M can count among its customers a number of large enterprises, including a leading regional automobile producer.
